How to demonstrate the versatility of your products in your imagery - with The Simple Root
London food photographer for plant-based brand The Simple Root
3 days of recipe development, food styling and food photography at my home studio in London to help launch the delicious range of plant based sauces by The Simple Root.
I worked on still images across varying recipe set ups, as well as recipe GIFs, product GIFs and one recipe video, all for use across their website and social media. All food and prop styling was done by me, sourcing a few select things from my prop shed at home and hiring other pieces from Backgrounds Prop Hire in London.

One of the core principles of The Simple Root is that vegetables are the hero. Thereβs no complicated science or long list of ingredients in their plant based sauces, it really is just veg. This was something Esther, Head of Marketing at The Simple Root, really wanted to champion with the first round of imagery to help launch their products in early 2022.
I tested and developed 8 recipes as part of this project, including twists on modern classics, demonstrating the versatility of the sauces, and more out of the box thinking with recipes that were creative and exciting. Esther wanted to showcase that, while The Simple Root sauces are great stirred through pasta or roasted veg as a quick mid week meal, theyβre also the perfect versatile blank canvas for more innovative creations.
I knew from our consultation call that this was going to be a job I loved, but when Esther shared the preferred colour palette with me I couldnβt wait to get started. A focus on autumnal colours and the natural hues of root vegetables were the inspiration here - think the deep purples of beetroot just pulled from the ground, paired with dark, leafy greens, burnt oranges, warm whites and a soft neutral grey to really let the vegetables and product packaging shine. We also played around with natural textures like wood and linen to continue this rustic, earthy, homely feel.
Teamed with the use of natural light to create rich shadows and beautiful textures, this shoot was truly a dream. Definitely one of my favourites of 2022.
